Community Partnership

On October 13, 2010, over 50 people from the community and schools came together for a meeting of a community task force to simultaneously improve both the health and safety of our schools and the educational environment in which all the community’s children learn.

Fixes at Our Schools

Computer Area / Library

The Phillips Avenue library and computer center has been renovated and enlarged. The Riley Avenue computer center and a library underwent an expansion over the summer.

Drop Off Areas & Parking

Due to safety issues, two parent drop-off areas needed to be changed. The drop-off areas have been reconfigured at Phillips and Riley Avenue. Parking added at Riley, Phillips & Aquebogue.

Other Fixes

Other fixes included bringing the buildings into compliance with ADA law. Over the summer, BBS improved the lighting and ventilation and reconfigured specialized learning areas.

Special Learning Areas

The new libraries at Phillips and Riley allow room for reading and research with plenty of space for books and SmartBoards. In addition, rooms at Phillips, Aquebogue and Riley were reconfigured to create special learning areas.

Roofing, Windows, More

All the buildings are getting new roofing, new drainage, new sidewalks, resurfaced roads, and expanded parking. Because the bids came in under budget, there is also enough money for new safer playground surfaces to be installed.

Superintendent Carney

““We’re in full construction mode,” Superintendent Carney said.  “There was an incredible amount of work that went on over the summer, and we’re very excited to have buildings that look brand new.”
