VOTING INFORMATION
FOR THE MAY 20TH BUDGET VOTE

Who is eligible to vote?
Only persons who are qualified voters as of May 20, 2008 shall be permitted to vote in the election held on May 20, 2008. A qualified voter is: A citizen of the United States, who is 18 years of age or over, and a resident in Riverhead Central School District for 30 days or more preceding the vote.

How do I register?
If you are not registered to vote in school or general elections, you may register at the District Office, 700 Osborne Avenue, Riverhead, New York, on May 12, 2008 between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 6:00 p.m., prevailing time, and on May 13, 2008 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., prevailing time.

What is an absentee ballot?
Absentee ballots allow qualified district voters to participate in the school budget vote and election of board members if they are unable to vote in person due to illness or physical disability, hospitalization, incarceration, travel outside the voter’s county or city of residence for employment or business reasons, studies, or vacation on the day of the election. Application may be made for a ballot at the Office of the District Clerk and must be received by May 13, 2008 if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or by May 19 if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. What if I have a budget question?
A complete copy of the proposed 2008-09 Riverhead Central School District budget is available for inspection in the District Office, located at 700 Osborne Avenue. Reference copies are available for inspection at all district schools, and the Riverhead Public Library. There is also a copy of the budget on the District’s website: http://www.riverhead.net.
