Present: President, Mrs. Lori H. Montefusco;
Vice President, Mrs. Nancy Gassert; Mrs. Kathleen Berezny; Mr. Timothy
Griffing; Mrs. Marh Ellen Harkin and Mrs. Christine Prete.
ABSENT: Mr.Timothy Hubbard.
ALSO PRESENT: Mr. Paul R. Doyle, Mr. Joseph Singleton
and Ms. Nancy Carney.
President, Mrs. Montefusco,
opened the meeting at 7:07 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
A motion was made by Mrs.
Gassert, seconded by Mr. Griffing, to recess to executive session to discuss
personnel (disciplinary matter); RCFA contract negotiations and CSEA Aides
contract negotiations.

Board members on May 17th at
the Riverhead High School gymnasium
The Board of Education will
meet with the Riverhead Town Board on April 7 at 3:00 p.m. to discuss the Calverton
site and movement
toward a building project.
The following areas were
discussed:
■Students with Special
Needs (7.6% increase)
■Guidance (6.7%
increase)
■Health Services
Regular School (12% increase)
■Psychological
Services (-1.2%)
■Social Work Services
(-5.3%)
■Pupil Personnel
Services (3.9% increase)
Mrs. Berezny requested that
the Board establish a policy for reimbursement of arts-in-education expenses by
the PTOÕs and expressed concern that the district may be receiving
reimbursement for expenditures from BOCES and not channeling same
reimbursements to the PTOÕs.
In this same vein, Mr. Doyle
expressed his concern that cultural arts programs (i.e., five cultural arts programs at Riley during the month
of March) interfere with classroom instruction considering the literacy issue
in the district.
A member of the community
requested actual year-to-date expenditures. (Mrs. Montefusco stated the information is not yet available
due to negotiations with several of the bargaining units)

A motion was made by Mrs.
Berezny, seconded by Mrs. Prete, to approve the following resolution:
RESOLVED, that the Board of
Education of the Riverhead Central School District directs the external
auditors to establish a policy for reimbursement of Cultural Arts expenses, to
include an accounting system, for the Cultural Arts program.
Mrs. Montefusco recommended
that regulations governing reimbursements needed to be adopted by the Board
prior to establishing a policy.

The following resolution was
moved by Mrs. Montefusco and it was seconded by Mrs. Gassert for adoption:
RESOLVED, that the Board of
Education of the Riverhead Central School District directs administration to
prepare a list of line item reductions to the original budget proposal that
will least effect the quality of education for the students.

Mrs. Montefusco stated that
the Board will and should strive to make sure the budget presented to the
voters for approval on
May 17 does not have a
double digit spending increase/tax rate increase.
A motion was made by Mrs.
Gassert, seconded by Mr. Griffing, to recess to executive session to resume
discussions regarding negotiations and financial matters.
