PRESENT:
President, Mrs. Mary Ellen Harkin; Vice President, Mrs. Nancy Gassert; Mrs.
Kathleen Berezny; Mr. Timothy Griffing;
Mr.
Timothy Hubbard; Mrs. Lori H. Montefusco; and, Mrs. Marypat Takacs.
President,
Mrs. Harkin, opened the meeting at 6:11 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance to
the flag.
A
motion was made by Mrs. Gassert, seconded by Mrs. Berezny, to recess to
executive session to discuss specific personnel issues and the Superintendent
search with Mr. Raymond Fell of Eastern Suffolk BOCES.

Board of Education recessed to executive session at 6:12 p.m.
A
motion was made by Mrs. Berezny, seconded by Mrs. Takacs, to return to open
session.

Board of Education returned to open session at 7:46 p.m.
A
brief recess followed.
The
meeting resumed at 7:50 p.m.
There
were 12 other people in attendance.

PRESENT: Mrs. Barbara O’Kula.
Mrs.
Harkin announced that copies of a profile developed by Mr. Raymond Fell of
Eastern Suffolk BOCES with input from members of the Board of Education,
community, staff and parents for the recruitment of a new Superintendent of
Schools are available at the District Office.

Comments
from the community included:
-that
the Board of Education take into consideration to
place
ad in the local papers asking for applications from
individuals
to serve on the search committee for superintendent
-request
that Board of Education place new focus on duties of
board members
-request
for a personal meeting with members of the Board of
Education
regarding a family matter (request must be in writing)
-stricter
adherence for review of teachers and administrators
pending
tenure approval to avoid any instance of tenure by
estoppel
-concern
that board members will be precluded from attending
conferences,
workshops, etc. for lack of money in the budget
(Mrs.
Harkin indicated that the NYSSBA and Nassau-Suffolk
School
Boards Association can bring various training sessions to
us
as part of our membership and comes highly recommended)
A
motion was made by Mrs. Montefusco, seconded by Mrs. Gassert, to amend the
following resolution as follows:
RESOLVED,
that the Board of Education authorizes the President of the Board of Education
to enter into an agreement with BOCES to employ Dr. Joseph A. Laria as Interim
Superintendent of Schools for the time period commencing July 1, 2004 on a per
diem basis.

motion was made by Mrs. Gassert, seconded by Mrs. Montefusco, to approve the
following resolution:
RESOLVED,
that the Board of Education authorizes the President of the Board of Education
to enter into an agreement with BOCES
to
employ Dr. Joseph A. Laria as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the time
period commencing July 1, 2004 on a per diem basis.
