(July
31, 2007) A
scheduled major network infrastructure upgrade shut down the computers
on August 6th and 7th. The infrastructure upgrade was done at the District
Office, High School, Middle School, Pulaski, Buildings and Grounds,
Transportation, and Athletics. There were intermittent outages of e-mail
and Internet in the other buildings as well during the upgrade. Multiple
crews worked simultaneously to complete the upgrade. It all went very
smoothly and the District's computers should run much faster as a result
of the upgrade.
In addition to switching upgrades, there was also an internet service
upgrade. According to Robert Hines, the District's Technology Director,
"The Internet Connection for Riverhead Central School District
is being switched to Lightpath Metro Ethernet '50 Meg' which is 16X
faster than was available last year and 32X faster than 2005. This increased
Internet bandwidth will help our system support the myriad of instructional
and administrative internet based applications we depend on daily."
