RELOCATABLE
CLASSROOMS PROPOSITION
FOR RIVERHEAD HIGH SCHOOL
VOTE ON
Tuesday, August 23, 2005
Riverhead High School Gymnasium
6:00 AM to 9:00 PM
The
proposition to purchase 8 re-locatable classrooms,
at a cost not to exceed $1,600,000 will provide a temporary
solution to meet the needs of the increased enrollment at
the Riverhead High School. This proposition will add $500,000
to the $1,100,000 proposition to lease classrooms, approved
by the taxpayers in June 2004.
The
classrooms approved in June 2004 were not ordered since the
bids exceeded the authorized amount.
The
approval of the proposition to purchase 8 classrooms will
enable the District to:
- Partially
relieve the present overcrowding at the High School by providing
space for 224 students.
- Provide
maximum flexibility to the District in relocating these
classrooms to other schools, when they are no longer needed
at the present high school.
- Provide
the classrooms without increasing taxes. The funding
of $1,600l000 will be based on the June 2004 authorization
of $1,100,000 with the balance from allocated funds on hand
as of June 30, 2004. Since the funds are on hand, the
approval of the proposition will not increase the tax rate.
- By
purchasing the classrooms when installed, the district will
save $309,316 compared to a five year lease/purchase.
- Provide
classroom space in the shortest possible time (by late fall).
