Audit Clears Riverhead Schools
Excerpt
from Karla Schuster's article on our schools in Newsday
April 27, 2005
The audit, conducted by state Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi's
office, did not find evidence of wrongdoing in the district's
spending on administrative expenses such as credit cards,
meals, travel and cell phones. "I commend the Riverhead
school district for keeping administrative expenses in check
and for quickly addressing the areas where auditors found
room for improvement," Hevesi said in a prepared statement.

They help keep kids off the streets and/or out of the house.
They prevent kids from being lazy and just playing video games.
There are many things kids can do after school, such as clubs,
sports, and even extra help. More

News-Calverton, Wading River...
Excerpt
from Cheryl Pellis' article on our schools in the News Review
Riley Avenue Elementary School students just finished a five-month-long
character-education program by delivering 10 gift baskets
for babies born at Central Suffolk Hospital. Each basket contained
blankets and hats and other baby items. Many of the items
were made on a knitting jenny, an old-fashioned Irish loom,
with which the children made about 25 hats. Help was also
given by Riverhead Free Library's Knitting Club and Riley
parents and faculty members. What a nice way to welcome new
babies to the community; after all, some of them are likely
to be part of the Riley "family" someday!
Riley Avenue School is closed for vacation this week, but
coming up on March 2, the artist in residence will be David
Biedrzycki, an illustrator. He illustrates books about boats
and the alphabet. Some of his titles are: The Boat Alphabet
Book, Underwater Counting and The Freshwater Alphabet book.
So, welcome to David. And on March 3, art work of some of
Riley's children will be displayed at the Parrish Art Museum.
The children whose work has been selected will go to the museum
to view the exhibit that day. Congratulations to all who have
the honor of having their work presented. (February 24, 2005)
