Mr. Paul Doyle is New Superintendent
The search for a new superintendent for our schools is complete. At the October 26th meeting of the Board of Education, Mr. Paul Doyle was sworn in as the next Superintendent of Schools of the Riverhead Central School District. (October, 2004)

School Board Recognition Week
School Board Recognition Week was October 25-29. During the October 28th Board of Ed. meeting, representatives from the school community thanked the Board members for their dedication and service to the District's schools and students. (October 28, 2004)

Halloween Happenings

Halloween Happenings around the district included a creative gym class at Aquebogue, costumes, parties and parades, as well as a Spooky Walk sponsored by the RHS students. (October 29, 2004)

October is Fire Safety Month in the Schools
The Riverhead Fire Department visited each of the elementary schools in the District to review with them fire safety tips. Each class visited the department's "smokehouse" and practiced escapes and watched videos outlining what you should do in case of a fire. The student's learned the ABCs of fire safety! Did you install or check the batteries in your smoke alarms? (October, 2004)

Wall of Fame - Students of the Month

The Wall of Fame is located in the entrance to the high school and features outstanding academic achievement and effort. Each month students from each academic area are chosen as "Students of the Month". Congratulations to these outstanding students! (October, 2004)

Key Club is Homeless for an Evening
To draw attention to the issue of homelessness and to raise funds for Maureen’s Haven, a relatively new program sponsored by the Peconic Community Council, the students decided to organize a cardboard box campout, which they dubbed “Be Homeless”. (October, 2004)

RHS 2004 Homcoming Festivities
Homecoming concluded on a rainy but ultimately truiumphant note this year (Football: Blue Waves 41/Deer Park 14). Spirit Week Winners: Decorations - Srs., Pep Rally - Sophs., Float - Srs., Overall competition - Srs. The parade theme was the 50s, 40s, 30s, 20s. Congratulations to all the students for a fantastic Homecoming Week and to the organizers, Theresa Drozd & Pat Raynor. (October, 2004)

The Phillips Avenue School’s 6th Annual Story Night is a celebration of reading as the staff, students and family members put on their favorite pajamas and come together for a pajama party. Pictured is a rendition of The Sword and the Stone. (October, 2004)

Artworks - Jackson Pollock Comes to Pulaski
Andrew wrote, “When Ms. Raimondo told us about her new book . . . I thought it was awesome. It was also cool how we got to pick the cover painting (for the book). We picked ‘Scream’. There were some really funny things in it. . . I saw a guy that looked like he had block of Swiss cheese on his head!” Andrew concludes, “In all I thought that it was really awesome! I can’t wait until next week! We’re making our own paintings that have a chance to be in her new book! Pinch me!!! Ouch!" More <

Ellen Dougherty featured in NEWSDAY. . .
Excerpt from Jeff Gold's article on Ellen Dougherty in Newsday
Statistics: Dougherty had the second-fastest time in the country for 1,000 meters indoor in 2004 among high schoolers, finishing in 2 minutes, 50.9 seconds. She was the 2003 state champion in the 800 outdoors with a time of 2:10.0. She was recognized as an All-American in cross country in 2003. She has been named all-state cross country from 2001-2003, all-state indoor track in 2004, and all-state outdoor track from 2003-2004.

All-County and All-State Musicians Chosen at RHS


The RHS students chosen to attend All-County and All-State Music Festivals were recently chosen. RHS had FIVE students chosen this year to attend the All-State Music Festival!
