"Participate in Your Child's Education--Get to Know His/Her Teacher"
September 20, 2012 | Riverhead, NY
Parents streamed into three elementary buildings in the district on Thursday (September 20) night. At the Riley Avenue School, the gymnasium was filled to capacity and beyond as Principal David Enos greeted the parents and guardians of kindergartners, first graders and second graders. He shared with his audience the school's goals for the year and congratulated them on their participation in their child's education."We want to recognize and thank you for you ongoing support of our school," Mr. Enos stated enthusiastically. "We welcome and appreciate you as partners in the education of our students. The solid home/school connection that we have at Riley Avenue is one of the main reasons why this school has been so successful."
After the presentation by Mr. Enos, the parents filed into their child's classroom to meet the teachers. Many of the parents stopped to greet first grade teacher Troy Sidik.
When asked how he knew so many of the people passing by, he replied, "I went to this school as a child. I live about two minutes away, and both of my own children attend this school."
Inside Jill Kent's first grade classroom, Mrs. Kent explained that she had been teaching for 21 years. "I know what you're thinking, 'How could that be possible? She looks so young.' Trust me, I have two teenage children. This time with your children goes by so quickly—enjoy it. I love teaching first grade, but we have a lot of learning to do in first grade."
