Peters Memorial Science Fair

Each of the elementary schools hosted their own individual
science fairs this year. Students gave presentations in
their own classrooms and then put their experiments on display for
the community to enjoy.
The first place scientists in each of the elementary
schools were as follows:
Roanoke Avenue: Rodrigo Castillo, Kindergarten;
Kole Seuling, second grade; Kevin O’Kula, third grade; and
Desmond Daniels, third grade.
Phillips Avenue: Bryan Erbis, kindergarten; Hanna Baldwin,
first grade; Arianna Breest, second grade; Emily Mosse, third grade;
and Brianne Corwin, fourth grade.
Aquebogue: William Burns, kindergarten; Dalton
Lucas, first grade; Mike McCormack, second grade; Sophia Panse,
third grade; and Noah Markewitz, fourth grade.
Riley Avenue: Isabella Regini, first grade; Kristin
Kingman, second grade; Jaiden Blom, third grade; and Steve and Elise
Littlefield, fourth grade.
As usual, the topics at the science fair covered the gamut of topics.
The always popular “Which diaper absorbs best,” “Which
raisin bran cereal has the most raisins,” and “Which
battery lasts the longest” were represented at Roanoke’s
science fair (answers: Pampers won over Huggies, A&P Raisin
Bran, and Energizer). One unusual experiment there involved beta
fighting fish and a mirror.
Some of the finalists at the Riley Avenue School from Mrs. Gaare’s
class had experiments that revealed “how Clouds are made”
(by Liana S. -- using a jar, water, heat and a rubber glove), James
A. experimented with slime's viscosity, Erin P. hypothesized about
the time of the day her hamster could best remember its way through
a maze to his food, John D. demonstrated “What makes a rocket
launch,” Adam O. revealed the “Countdown to a Melt Down,”
James R. asked “What’s that Smell” and Eddie M.
discovered which brand of pop corn pops the most kernels (A&P
brand). Mrs. Gaare was the fair coordinator at the Riley Avenue
School.
The Pulaski Street School will host their science fair on April
26.
The Middle School and High School chose not to host a fair this
year, but have been involved in a number of other science-related
events.
