District Teachers Win 13 Mini-Grants

Nearly $14,000 Worth of MESTRACT Mini-Grants

The Terri Peters Mini-Grant Program 2002-2003 coordinated by the Mid East Suffolk Teacher Center (MESTRACT) is designed to provide funding up to $800 to teachers for the implementation of educational projects for which funding is not available through normal district channels. Mini-grants result in the improvement of instruction for students Pre K-12 in helping them meet the NYS Standards. The Riverhead Central School District won a total of 15 $800 mini-grants for the 2002-2003 school year. The grants are being spent on a wide range of materials ranging from books to voice recognition software. Listed below are the names of the teachers and the mini-grants they received.

Aesop - “A Quilt to Live By,” Rita Moloney, Maryann Soika and Linda Gordon, Riley
“Patricia Polacco Prodigies,” Donna Verbeck, Riley
“Space is Out of This World,” Wendy Finter and Ruth Levine, to support the possible link with the Space Station, Riley
