National Foreign Language Honor Society Inductees
  

The National Foreign Language Honor Societies recently held their induction ceremonies at Riverhead High School. Thirty-one students were inducted into the French Honor Society; 12 students were inducted into the Latin Honor Society; and 29 students were inducted into the Spanish Honor society--for a total of 72 students! In order to qualify for the National Foreign Language Honor Society, a student must maintain a 90% or higher throughout three years of study and maintain an overall grade point average of 85% or higher.

Superintendent of Schools Paul Doyle greeted the students and their guests and stated approvingly, “Knowledge of a foreign language is an advantage in the global economy in which we live and work.”

Other speakers included foreign exchange students Amy Wooten and Beau Murray, who spent a year in Norway and greeted the audience in Norwegian. Both highly recommended the experience of being an exchange student.

Mrs. Dali Rastello, the Chairperson for the Foreign Language Department introduced each of the teachers for each language, and the current officers of each language honor society participated in the induction ceremonies. Officers from each of the honor societies are: French -- Jennifer Aceituno--President, Colleen Wilhelm--Vice President, Kristin Lohneiss--Secretary, and Chrstine Bouchard--Treasurer; Spanish -- Jessica Holbrook--President, Christina Santiago--Vice-President, Pawel Kurzyna--Co-Secretary, Shannon Corwin--Co-Secretary,and Samantha Roth--Treasurer; Latin -- Erin McKenna--Valedictorian and President, Dana Murray, Brittany Palm, Dristen Carbone and Stephanie Cisler.

The following students were inducted into the Honor Societies this year:
