RHS Has Two Commended Students
Dan Snyder and Peter Falango

(RIVERHEAD, NY - November, 2005) This Fall two RHS seniors, Peter Falango and Dan Snyder, were notified that they had qualified for the distinction of being named "Commended Students" in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

More than 1.3 million juniors in nearly 21,000 U.S. high schools entered the 2006 National Merit Program by taking the 2004 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which serves as an initial screen of program entrants.

Even though Peter and Dan are not qualified to continue as semifinalists, they have earned the distinction of placing among the top 5% of those 1.3 million juniors who took the test.

Peter Falango, the president of the senior class and a member of the National Honor Scociety, is also an outstanding trumpet player and has been chosen to attend both the All-County and All-State Music Festivals this year. He plans to pursue a degree in music after he graduates from RHS.

Dan Snyder, also a member of the National Honor Society, is also a member of the Latin Club, Mentathletes, the Math Club, Co-President of the Outdoors Club and is a Platoon Leader and webmaster for the NJROTC, as well as a member of the Varsity Tennis and Golf Teams. He plans to major in mechanical engineering after high school.
