(September
2007--Riverhead, NY) Allan,
who is 15 and a 10th grader this year at RHS, attended Brookhaven
National Laboratory’s Minority High School Summer Apprenticeship
Program. The objective of the program is to stimulate a broader
interest and awareness among minority students in science careers; to
reinforce their academic training in science, mathematics and engineering;
and to advise and assist them in seeking careers in these fields.
Allan spent five weeks at BNL studying a different subject each week:
meteorology, physics, chemistry and biology (for two weeks).
Allan writes, “BNL is a very interesting and unique place. They
run an excellent summer program. We didn’t just study these subjects;
we experienced them. I especially enjoyed the two weeks I spent learning
about biology. BNL is serious when it comes to learning. They only teach
willing and mature young minds; so if science fascinates you, go to
www.bnl.gov/education/students.asp.”
