Top 15 in the Class of 2008
(The
TOP 15 students in the class of 2008 at Riverhead High School
have been chosen. The students are listed according to their rank
with their current choice for a major and the college or university
they plan to attend. Congratulations to these outstanding RHS

Allyson Bunch is the 2008 Valedictorian and Craig Hallock is the

National
Foreign Language Honor Society
(May
15, 2998) The National Foreign Language Honor Societies held their
induction ceremonies at Riverhead High School on May 15, 2008. Seventeen
students were inducted into the French Honor Society; fourteen students
were inducted into the Latin Honor Society; and forty-three students
were inducted into the Spanish Honor Society for a total of 74 students.

Rowers Win Junior Double
(May
2008) Ed O'Neill and Dylan Gould won the Junior Double Eventat Saratoga
Springs, NY on May 11. This event is for students in the 11th grade
or less. The crew won its preliminary heat setting the best time
of the day and won the final by having a very quick start putting
their boat ahead immediately. They were able to gain a 3 length
lead and controlled the race from the front. The conditions were
excellent at this fine venue. Ed is a Sophomore and Dylan a Junior
at Riverhead HighSchool. This win qualifies them for the Scholastic
Nationals at Oak Ridge, Tenn. >More

2008 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTION
Sixty-Seven
RHS students were inducted into the National Honor Society
(May 16, 2008 – Riverhead, NY) The inductees into Riverhead
High School's chapter of the National Honor Society have been chosen
for the 2007-08 school year. The National Honor Society is more
than just an honor roll. Using national guidelines, the local chapter
establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student's
outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership,

Celebrates Two Award Winning Student Writers
(May 2008 - Riverhead, NY) At its May 6th Board of Education meeting,
the Riverhead Central School District celebrated the achievement
of two young writers, one just beginning her education at RCSD and
the other just completing hers. >More

Music Festivals

21, 2008) Annual music festivals offer RCSD students an opportunity
to perform with some of the best music students on Long Island.

are Conference/League Champs!
(February
21, 2008) The Riverhead Blue Waves Girls' Basketball Team has had
recent seasons it could feel good about. But there was always that
"but," whether it be just failing to reach the postseason
or losing early in the playoffs. On Monday night the Blue Waves
omitted any possible "but" for their 2007-08 season. >More
I Want to be a Teacher!
Fifty-four
RHS students planning to major in education in college next year
or some time in the near future spent two days in an elementary
school in the District teaching four units on "Community"
to first and second graders as part of an ongoing alliance between
the District's School to Career program and the Junior Achievement
(JA) program.

Annual Iron Chef Contest at RHS
(February
19, 2008) Chicken breast, fresh baby spinach, rice and a choice
of spices were the required food components of the first Iron Chef
Competition at Riverhead High School. The four contestants, Tom
Edenfield, Tom Cooper, Amanda Racaniello and Julie Zilnicki, were
given just one hour to create an extraordinary offering from these
ordinary ingredients that would impress the crucial eye and discerning
palate of the tasting judges. >More

Financial
Literacy
(February
11, 2008) Superintendent Dr. Diane B. Scricca announced today that
she wants all students at Riverhead High School to graduate "financially
literate." Starting this term, Riverhead High School will integrate
personal finance instruction as part of Economics, a course required
for graduation. Students will learn about topics such as banking,credit,
insurance, investing, housing retirement and financial planning.

Research Class and Club at RHS
(January,
2008) Students in the new Research class taught by Mr. Robert Jester
have done the initial research and are now presenting it as part
of an entry into a nationwide competition called the Lexus Environment
Challenge, which will provide $1 million in grants and scholarships
to the schools with the most viable projects. >More
