Reid Groth, Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education
for the Riverhead Central School District has announced the names
of the 2002 recipients of the prestigious New York State Association
for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance – Suffolk
Zone Award.

This year’s recipients
are Russell Kratoville and Hannah Warner both seniors at Riverhead
High School. The winners will be honored at a dinner at West Lake
in Patchogue on Wednesday, December
4, 2002.
Russell Kratoville carries a 105.8 weighted grade point average
and is ranked #1 in the senior class. He is also captain of the
varsity tennis and golf teams. Other activities Russell is involved
in include the Outdoors Club, Mentathletes and Varsity Stage Band.
Next fall he plans to attend either the US Naval Academy or Georgia
Tech.
Hannah Warner has been an outstanding Physical Education student
throughout her high school years earning a 97 average. She is
a three-year member and current captain of the Field Hockey team.
She is also a member of the Varsity Track team and has received
All League honors in both sports. Hannah carries a 100.9 weighted
average and is president of the National Honor Society, a member
of the Leaders Club and volunteers for Special Olympics. Hannah
is undecided on where to attend college but hopes to become an
occupational therapist.
The Suffolk Zone award criteria demand a high level of physical
fitness, strong participation in school and community activities,
evidence of leadership roles, community involvement and academic
excellence.
