Middle
School Math Scholars Named
(November 2006) CONGRATULATIONS RMS students
Adam Hubert and Sean Harkin are two of 75 students to be named
Long Island Young Scholars of Mathematics and have been accepted
into the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted
and Talented Students at SUNY College at Old Westbury to pursue
mathematics and science studies.

Middle
School Honor Concert Band Festival Winners
(
November 2006) Two RMS musicians, Andrew Plattner and Ernest
Mc-Millan, are among the 97 students, who have been chosen
from 230 applicants, to participate in the New York State
Band Directors’ Association’s Middle School Honor
Concert Band Festival in Syracuse, NY in early March. Andrew,
who plays clarinet, received a perfect score on his level
4 NYSSMA solo. Ernest received 27 out of a possible 28 points
on his trombone solo.

Had the Best Time at BestBuy
One
of the 18 RMS students who went to BestBuy, says it this way,
"It was fun. We had the best time learning about careers
at BestBuy."

Let
there be peace--Embrace the Dream
Students in Bob Fallot’s
studio art class at RMS submitted an original artwork illustrating
Dr. King’s Six Principles and Steps of Nonviolence for
the 2005 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Memorial Observance
at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. Their artwork is a collage
of Martin Luther King’s picture, in the colors of the
U.S. flag, in the shape of a globe, encircled by the peace
sign.

Revolutionary War Re-enactment
Several
members of the Third New York/Long Island Regiment, Revolutionary
War re-enactors visited the Riverhead Middle School students
to enliven their studies of the Revolutionary War by sharing
with the students their gear, cooking demonstrations, drills
and their insights on what the life of a soldier was like
in those early days of our nation’s struggle for independence.

and RHS Latinists Win BIG!
RMS and RHS Latinists competed in 2004
Latin Declamatio
The
RMS and RHS Latinists recently competed against 15 schools
in the Second Annual Suffolk County Classical Association's
Declamatio held at SUNY-Stony Brook. In this competition,
Latin students prepare a memorized passage from ancient Latin
literature and then recite it dramatically to the judges and
audience.

Latinists Win AGAIN!
RMS Latinists attended the New
York State Junior Classical League
Convention for Latin students
All of the students at the event (grades
7-12) took an exam that covered nine academic areas including:
grammar, derivation, mythology, vocabulary, geography, etc.
Two of the Riverhead Middle School Latinists recently learned
that they placed FIRST and EIGHTH in the overall academic
competition!
