Riverhead
Middle School has approximately 785 students in grades
7 and 8. There are 120 professional staff.
RMS has a culturally diverse student population, with a teaching
staff of seasoned veterans and new, energetic, young professionals.
There is a strong commitment to a team approach at RMS:
- Teachers
and students work in teams.

-
Teachers get to know their students and to share curriculum
materials and ideas with each other.
-
Parents are encouraged to contact teachers on the team concerning
their child's learning needs.
- The
assistant principal is Steve Hudson.

In addition to these programs, RMS is participating in a five-year
National Science Foundation Grant (MSTP)
that the district received in 2003. Riverhead is part of a consortium
of 10 schools that received the grant which is designed to assist
math teachers in the consortium by arming them with the most current
and effective teaching methods and materials available in an effort
to make math and its relationship to science and technology more
meaningful and exciting to middle level students.
The
RMS Guidance Department would like to offer parents a
newsletter in English and Spanish designed to help them help
their child during the Middle School years.
