Riverhead Middle School has approximately 695 students in grades 7 and 8. There are 110 professional staff. Check out the Back to School Night Booklet for all kinds of helpful information about the MS (i.e., Clubs, Phone Numbers, Course Guide, Extra Help Guide, etc.

All students are assigned eight academic periods per day and a lunch. English Language Arts (ELA) and Math for most students meet daily for 41 minutes and every other day for an additional 41 minutes (82 minute block on an A or B day). This additional instructional time is designed for greater opportunities for teachers to individually meet students' academic needs, imbed Academic Intervention Services (AIS) and provide eggcaracceleration strategies that will ultimately lead to greater student success.

There is a strong commitment to a team approach at RMS. Teachers and students work in teams.

  • Parents are encouraged to contact teachers on the team concerning their child's learning needs.

RMS FAMILY FUN NIGHT UNDER THE STARS
RMS National Jr. Honor Society and the Ennvironmental Club

Quilt

(May 3, 2013) Students in the RMS National Junior Honor Society and the Middle School's Environmental Club hosted a "Family Night Under the Stars" at the Middle School last Friday night. it was "far out". Student coordinators wore T-shirts they helped design and acted as coordinators of the various events throughout the evening. It went from 6PM to 9PM and also acted as a fundraiser for these two groups.

There were telescopes brought by Camera Concepts of Patchogue set up in the field outside the gym, which enabled the students to observe sun spots and, later in the evening, stars. Some families brought their own telescopes.

In the gymnasium, there was entertainment by the RMS Jazz Band, a STARLAB from MESTRACT that projected constellations onto its roof, crafts for kids of all ages, and a viewing of the movie "October Sky" in the cafeteria.

Teachers Kristen Realander, Michelle Reed and Alyson Grossman coordinated this effort.
