Go for the Gold
The
students at the Roanoke Avenue School
have enthusiastically embraced a year-long theme entitled
"Go for the Gold."
Earlier in the year, Roanoke students
dressed as olympiads and marched through the streets of
Riverhead in the Homecoming Parade.
Throughout the first part of the year,
students adopted and studied their assigned countries.
Shortly before the Chinese New Year, they learned the
Chinese Ribbon Dance and Chinese exercises in PE class.
Students made powerpoint presentations on Japan, created
flags, slogans and cheers and participated in a spirited
Pep Rally before their Winter Olympics.
Tthe Winter Olympics
extended over a snowy two-day period, wherein students
wholeheartedly enjoyed snowmobile, luge and two-person
bobsled racing in a gymnasium decked out for the event.
One little kindergarten girl summed it
up beautifully, "I am sooo excited! I've never been
in the Winter Olympics before!" In June, she'll have
a chance to participate in the Summer Olympics!
