Kindergarten
Tea: A Lesson in Manners
Kindergarten
teacher Katherine Kent's annual tea party is
always a bright spot in the school year. This year it preceded
Valentine's Day, and the lovely manners and kindness that
her students displayed were as delightful as any of the
delicious delicacies they and their guests enjoyed. Cucumber
sandwiches, strawberries dipped in chocolate, heart-shaped
cookies and sandwiches, cherries and candies accompanied
the apple juice politely poured by the hosts and hostesses
from silver teapots.
Before the
party the children reviewed a few of the rules of politeness
they had learned: don't
shout; say please and thank you; don't push or shove; listen
politely to the speaker; don't interrupt; only take a few
things on your plate; return to your places and wait for
everyone to get their food before you begin to eat, place
your napkin in your lap; if you must wipe your mouth, don't
use your sleeve--kiss your napkin; be friendly and helpful;
don't chew with your mouth open or talk with your mouth
full; and remember "pinky up" when you drink.
Thank you, Mrs.
Kent, it was beautiful to behold!
