Transportation Department Conducts Bus Safety Drills

Buster the Bus Brings Bus Safety Instruction to the Elementary Schools

Bus Safety

The RCSD Transportation Department and Buster the Bus promote bus safety in our schools by providing instructions to students in the district on how to safely wait for, cross in front of, climb the steps and ride school buses to and from school.

Buster, an animated little bus, blinks its eyes and flashes its lights while talking to the students about bus safe

General Rules (from the NHTSA on bus safety)
1. Students should ALWAYS walk 10 feet in front of the bus, NEVER behind the bus.
2. Students should ALWAYS be at least 5 giant steps (about 10 feet) away from the side of the bus while waiting for the bus or immediately after disembarking.
3. If a student drops something, he or she should tell the bus driver and NEVER try to pick it up.
4. Student should NEVER run to catch the bus.

"The students seem to listen more intently to Buster when he talks to them about bus safety," explains bus driver Wendy Drumm.
