A
wizard, an owl, a big red dog named Clifford and the Cat in the
Hat wandered the hallways of the Aquebogue Elementary School waiting
for the children to spill out into the hallways as they traveled
to their next story time event. The children's faces lit up as
they high-fived with Clifford and smiled for the Cat in the Hat,
who snapped their picture on her digital camera.
Former Assistant Superintendent
Jean Lapinski, who rarely missed one of these reading events when
she was an administrator in the district, was there again reading
to the children, as was Peggie Staib.
Other rooms featured teachers from
the school, who made inviting displays outside their doorways
and dressed in colorful costumes that brought their stories to
life. Jackie Case, covered with leaves, read Shel Silverstein's
"The Giving Tree," while Judy Kozora, dressed in a rabbit
costume, read animal books.

Students in Bonnie Fisher's
room first enjoyed her dramatic retelling of the "Three Billy
Goats Gruff" and then got into the act themselves by acting
out the story--clip, clopping over the bridge, while the mean
old troll lurked beneath.
Bedtime snacks,
free books and five buckets of books along with other goodies
were parting gifts for the lucky little night wanderers, who attended
this special event designed to encourage farmily reading fun and
to give students another opportunity to build their own special
libraries to enjoy again and again.
