HEALTH
AND FITNESS WALK AT AQUEBOGUE
Facilitated by Physical Education teachers Danielle Altman
and Ken Marelli, the students
in the Aquebogue School, a K-4 school in the Riverhead recently
participated in a 30 minute fitness walk during their physical
education classes to raise money for the victims devastated
by Hurricane Katrina.
Students collected a flat donation from generous sponsors
in the school and community. The Health and Fitness Walk raised
$5,038.35 for the Hurricane Katrina Victims!
"This was incredible! We initially thought, with the
$500 we received from the PTO, we would collect maybe $2,500,"
noted Aquebogue Principal Phil Kent. "I am so proud of
the students and staff at Aquebogue."
Katherine Murphy, the Regional Administrator of the Red Cross,
recently visited the school to award the school with a certificate
of achievement, to talk with the students about how their
donation will be utilized, and to pick up the big check.
The students, families and staff at Aquebogue have lots of
heart and the students have consistently used their hearts
(and their legs and arms) to show their willingness to help.
Last spring, they jumped rope to raise money for the American
Heart Association.
