eye sun-powered boat
Greenport project still must
raise $2,200
By Tim Gannon
One thing has led to another for students in
Riverhead High School science teacher Bob Jester's research
apprenticeship class.
The students are now hoping to turn an electric boat in Greenport
into a satellite learning center and to install solar panels
that could not only power the boat, but also generate additional
power that would go back into the village electrical grid.
They've
got the support of the boat's owners and they even made a
presentation on their proposal before the Greenport Village
Board earlier this year. >Page 1 and Page 2
Council for Unity grows bigger
More than 100 new members inducted
By Tim Gannon
Riverhead's Council for Unity welcomed more than 100 new members
last Wednesday night at its annual induction ceremony at Giorgio's
at Fox Hill in Baiting Hollow. More than 300 people were in
attendance.
The council is a program that aims to teach conflict resolution
and self-esteem. It has been part of the Riverhead Central
School District for five years and now has chapters in the
high school, middle school and Pulaski Street School, as well
as a parent and community chapter and a chapter at the Suffolk
County jail, according to Liz Stokes, a parent and community
chapter member who helped organize the induction ceremony.
The Riverhead Police Department also teaches the program at
Riverhead schools. >More
