Making strides in cancer
research Riverhead's second annual Relay for Life was a smashing
success, in spite of the threatening weather. Eighty-nine teams
registered for the relay this year, according to coordinator
Theresa Drozd.
The event raised more than $139,000 for cancer research. "And
I'm still getting money and checks
everywhere I go," reports Ms. Drozd. That tops last year's
tally, she said. Riverhead won an American Cancer Society award
for its efforts in Relay 2002, which raised more money than
any first-time relay event in the region. "Everyone had
a wonderful time," Ms Drozd said.
