From Mr. Enos and Ms. Grim:

September 2009

On behalf of the entire staff of Riley Ave. School, we are writing to tell you how excited we are about the upcoming academic year. On Tuesday, September 8, we look forward to welcoming almost 600 students to our Riley family, who will be part of our community of learners. At Riley, we want our pupils to truly enjoy their lower primary years as they learn and grow.

We also want to recognize our parents for their ongoing support of our school. We welcome and appreciate you as partners in the education of our students. The solid home/school connection that we have here is one of the main reasons why the State of New York has recognized us as a “high achieving” school.

As far as our building goals for 2009-10 are concerned, we are emphasizing the following:

-Emphasis on critical thinking and high level lesson planning across the curriculum.
-Continued implementation of all aspects of our balanced literacy approach, including our Teacher’s College initiative and the extension of our Fundations phonics program to third grade.
-Successful implementation of our Everyday Math program K-4.
-Character education with an ongoing emphasis on community service, a.k.a. “Riley Reaches Out.”
-Expanded partnerships with the community
-Maintaining a safe learning environment

In addition, the RCSD adopted a Uniform Code of Dress policy in all K-4 buildings last year. This will continue this year in grades K-6. Additional information can be accessed by going to the following link: Uniforms.

As always, please feel free to contact us with any ideas that you have that will further the education of our students.

It is a pleasure to be your school administrators. We are looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Mr. David Enos and Ms. Jeanne Grim
