Message from Mr. Enos and Ms. Grim
Riley
Avenue has a strong cultural arts committee which offers programming that
stimulates student interest in the arts through programs like the
Author or Artist in Residence program.
Riley Avenue is a PE Partner with Stony Brook University. Dietician interns from the Department of Family Medicine at SUNY-Stony Brook coordinate a series of short interactive nutrition workshops and exercise classes throughout the year.
A
large percentage of our parents volunteer in some capacity throughout
the year. Many of Riley's parents bring their expertise into the
classroom to provide enrichment to the curriculum through special
reading and writing programs or through some application of their
scientific knowledge. In the 2009-10 school year, students "Talked with the Astronauts" aboard the International Space Station as part of the ARISS Program.
Riley's Before School Childcare (i.e., Riley's
Kids) program is often the organizing arm that involves the entire
school in efforts to reach out to the Riverhead community through
clothing drives or special knitting projects for children in the
hospital, letters and supplies for soldiers in Iraq, or gift bags
for shut-ins.
Riley
is also well known for its holiday celebrations. Thanksgiving, the
Chinese New Year and St. Patrick's Day are favorites that provide
students
with a strong multicultural learning experience.
Another
program unique to the Riley Avenue School is its annual gymnastics
unit.
