Shana Nichols, PhD, psychologist and former Clinical Director of the Fay J. Lindner Center for Autism, is pleased to announce the June 2010 opening of her new clinic, ASPIRE Center for Learning and Development, in Melville, NY (110 – LIE corridor). Summer programming includes:
· June 23 “School’s out for Summer!” Celebration at Dave and Busters for 15-18 year olds
· “Out and About: Connecting with Your Community” weekend outings for pre-teens, teens and young adults with ASDs
· Home, community, and clinic-based behavioral and adaptive skill support programs
· Diagnostic evaluations and consultation services
· SOAR: Summer Organization for Academic Readiness program
· 6-week skills-focused individual counseling
· 7-9 year old “Social Coping” group

SUPPORT GROUPS AT THE CODY CENTER
Cody Center Sibling SupportGroup
The Sibling Support Group is forbrothers and sisters of children with Autism and related disorders. Thegroup meets weekly and incorporates games, art projects, and discussionin an upbeat and supportive atmosphere. The group is led by a socialworker, Marlies Brandt, and volunteer helpers.
Age Range of Siblings: 7to 11 years
Time: Saturdays, 11 am to12:30pm

Parent Information and SupportGroup
The Cody Center offers a shortterm group for parents of children recently diagnosed with Autism, AspergerSyndrome or PDD-NOS. The group focus is on helping parents developa better understanding of autism and on giving parents an overview of services,systems, and resources in the community.
Time: Tuesdays,7 pm to 8:30 pm

Grandparent Group
This group is for grandparentsof children with autism spectrum disorders. It features guest speakerson topics such as special education, promoting social skills, etc. Thereis no charge for group attendance.

Directions to Stony Brook University
The University is located in Suffolk County off Nicolls Road, which is Exit 62 of the Long Island Expressway, I-495. Take Nicolls Road north about 9 miles. At the first entrance to Stony Brook University, the South Entrance, turn left, or West, onto South Loop. Continue to Marburger, and turn right. Continue to the traffic circle and go around to “11 o’clock”; continue West on Circle Road until you see a right-hand turn into Campus Drive leading to the Student Activities Center. Parking is available in a large surface lot near the Student Activities Center. You can obtain a campus map at www.stonybrook.edu.
