RHS grad recruited for Bucknell's rowing team

At one point in 2006, this dynamic duo was rated ninth in the nation in HS rowing competition.

Eileen Belfield*, a 2006 graduate of RHS, was one of 17 student-athletes from around the country who were recruited to join Bucknell University's Women's Rowing program!

Eileen was a member of the newly formed Riverhead High School/East End Rowing Club, where she rowed a double. She was captain of her rowing team and her field hockey team. Eileen won gold at the Eastern New York State Public High School Championships in 2005 and 2006; won silver at the Empire State Games in 2005; third at the Long Island Scholastic Sprints in 2005 and the Coaches Award for rowing in 2006. Among her academic distinctions are: AP Physics Student of the Month, recognition as a High Honor Roll student, a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society. Her parents are Scott and Nora Belfield of Calverton, New York.*

According to its website, the Bucknell recruits fall into one of three categories: coxswains, lightweights and openweights. Eileen Belfield was o
ne of the seven lightweight recruits. Bucknell Rowing Coach Stephen Kish expects his incoming recruits to have an immediate impact on the Varsity Lightweight Eight, which is no small task considering the success the Bison lightweights have experienced over the past few years. This spring the Bucknell Lightweight Eight posted its best-ever finish at the IRA National Championships, while it has also recently won gold and silver medals at the Dad Vail Regatta and was selected to represent the program at the 2004 Henley Women's Regatta in England.**

"The incoming lightweights will strengthen a group that has proved to be a contender at the top level of lightweight women's rowing," explained Kish."**
