Phillips has a full day kindergarten program, a Universal Pre-Kindergarten, a self-contained special education class and a resource room.

Phillips Avenue is an annual winner of the Suffolk Reading Council Honor School and a past recipient of a 21st Century Grant. The school is also the recipient of a "Creative Classroom Collaboratives (C3) Grant".

Popular annual events include the Halloween Parade, Reading Week and Story Night during which staff, students and community  members dress in pajamas and come together for bedtime stories, skits and snacks. Phillips students also participate in the district-wide Terri Peters Science Fair.

Phillips celebrates fully the diversity of its students through events like the school's Diversity Day, Black History Month and Latin American celebrations. The students and staff also care for others inside and outside their immediate community.

Phillips Avenue teachers go the extra mile to obtain grants to help finance the expenses for special classroom projects, field trips and programs for their students. The parent organization, known as P.A.C.T, has also been active in the life of the school providing funds for a new playground and many other projects and programs.
