More than 400 members of the Riverhead Central High School Class of 2021 participated in a freshman orientation on Aug. 31.

During the high-energy orientation, students and their parents met administrators, teachers, advisers and guidance counselors and gained insight into the school’s policies from several speakers, including volunteer teachers.

“Our freshman orientation offered the incoming Class of 2021 and their parents an opportunity to get acquainted with the high school. It is a great way to start the school-parent partnership,” said Principal Dr. Charles Regan.

To further expand on the school-parent relationship, the school, for the first time, provided real-time translation to Spanish speaking parents using a headset system similar to those provided for audio museum tours.

The orientation, which carried a theme of “what will be your legacy,” provided the incoming ninth-graders with tours of the school. Volunteer upperclassmen and members of the school’s NJROTC led the tours.

“We are looking forward to providing our freshmen with a positive educational experience and watching them excel,” said Dr. Regan.
