To ensure that area families in need are well-nourished, the Riverhead Central School District has partnered with Long Island Cares to distribute free food on a monthly basis at Roanoke Avenue Elementary School, 549 Roanoke Avenue.

The new mobile school pantry will make its debut on Thursday, Sept. 28 and dispense a variety of goods, including nonperishable food, fresh produce, and frozen meats. As the distributions continue, the Long Island Cares team will evaluate families’ needs and will alter distribution supplies based on those needs. Future visits to Roanoke may include the distribution of educational books, coats during the winter and information and access to SNAP enrollment and/or health coverage.

The pantry is open to the family of any student enrolled in the school district. Participating families will each receive an I.D. card for future use at the pantry after filling out an entitlement form.

The pantry schedule is as follows: Sept. 28, Oct. 27, Dec. 20, Jan. 25, Feb. 28, March 29, April 26, May 30 and June 21. The pantry will be open from 5-7 p.m. on each date.
