Members of the high school Hispanic Youth Leadership Club had the opportunity to speak with representatives of the Guatemala Consulate Jazmin Carrillo and Flor de Maria Sanchez on Nov. 1.

During the meeting, Ms. Carrillo, who is a 2007 graduate of Riverhead High School and organized the event, spoke to the students about the importance of staying in school and continuing on to higher education in the face of adversity. She offered the steps she took to become an administrative assistant with the consulate.

Ms. Sanchez, who is the third secretary of the consulate, discussed the role of the consulate and how it maintains diplomatic relations between countries. She additionally explained the services the consulate offers, such as national ID cards and passports to Guatemalan foreign nationals and dual citizenship for those born in America to Guatemalan parents.
