The Riverhead Central School District would like to extend its gratitude to the members of the Riverhead Kiwanis Club and Aquebogue resident Frank Petrignani for making the holiday season bright for four Phillips Avenue Elementary School families.

Through their kindness, each of the families received a Christmas tree, stand, tree skirt, lights and decorations.

“They truly went above and beyond for these families,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aurelia Henriquez. “Their kindness is just one shining example of how the Riverhead community always comes together for those in need.”

The project got underway earlier in December when Petrignani said he wanted to do something special for families who can’t necessarily afford a Christmas tree. He reached out to Woody Orenstein, president of the Kiwanis Club, who assisted in putting the project in motion.

“It was very gratifying to be able to provide these families with a Christmas tree,” said Petrignani. “Every child should be able to experience the joy of a tree during the holiday season."
