Riverhead Central School District’s transition program was centrally featured during an Eastern Suffolk BOCES transition summit, held April 12 at the Sherwood Center in Holbrook.

Serving as panelists for the event were Elva Beyer, district transition coordinator; Dan Callahan, ACCESS/VR counselor; Lisa Lindsay, contracted job developer; and Ashley Wright, a Riverhead High School graduate. The quartet discussed and fielded questions from more than 200 attendees regarding the district’s transition program. Additionally, Wright spoke of the support the program provided her while pursuing her career goals. She will be graduating from Hunter Business School in September.

This is not the first time Riverhead’s successful transition program has received accolades. The program, which provides students with work experiences, prevocational skills training and opportunities to explore careers, has been assisting other districts with their respective transition programs for the past several years.

“Our program has been used as a model across Long Island for other districts to emulate,” said Beyer. “We are very proud of our achievements.”
