The Riverhead Central School District Board of Education celebrated four musical performing groups and their instructors during its meeting on April 16. All members were presented with certificates of recognition, following a first-rate performance by the high school jazz ensemble.

The musicians and teachers were specifically recognized for their respective performances at the WorldStrides OnStage New York Heritage Festival in New York City in March.

Held at the Riverside Church, the 83 student-musicians earned accolades for their talents during the performance events. The chamber orchestra procured a Gold Award and an Adjudicators Award; the jazz ensemble received a first-place Silver Award; the wind ensemble scored a first-place Concert Band Gold Award, an Adjudicators Award and an Outstanding Band group award; and the chamber choir merited a Silver Award.

Individual students were also honored for their performances. Chamber orchestra member Sarah Anne Fried and singer Sarah Jordan garnered Maestro Awards, while choral member Lily Kutner was presented with an Ovation Award.
