To fully engage students in science, technology, engineering and math, Riley Avenue Elementary School in the Riverhead Central School District held its first STEM Day on April 16.

Students participated in a wide variety of STEM activities throughout the day, which carried a different theme for each grade level. They visited STEM stations where they had to work in teams to construct seaworthy vessels out of masking tape, code Ozobots, build skyscrapers out of spaghetti and lift objects using string. They also made tile mosaics, tested buoyancy and planted seeds.

The day was coupled with career exploration, as students came to school dressed in attire that represented the career field they plan to enter or further explore.
