Riverhead Central School District music teacher Annette Brewer has been named a recipient of a 2019 AP Summer Institute Fellows Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship will provide Brewer with an opportunity to attend the AP Summer Institute, which aims to equip teachers with tools to reach students who have traditionally been underrepresented in AP courses. The institute will also provide information on College Board changes to the AP Music Theory curriculum, resources, and progress-checking tools to support students’ understanding of college-level content and skills.

“I am honored to have been selected to attend,” said Brewer.

Brewer has been teaching AP Music Theory at Riverhead High School for the past ten years and been employed by the district since 1990. She also instructs the eighth grade band at the middle school and conducts the middle school wind ensemble.

“This is a wonderful opportunity,” said Director of Fine Arts Lauren Lewonka. “It will help Mrs. Brewer re-energize the high school music theory program and enhance her knowledge so she can guide our students toward success in the AP Music Theory classroom.”
