Riverhead High School students who participated in Stony Brook University’s HCARE (Health Careers Academic Readiness and Excellence) program during the summer were presented with white lab coats and certificates of recognition at the district’s board meeting on Sept. 24.

During the brief ceremony, Erik Flynn, clinical lecturer at Stony Brook University, spoke of the students’ dedication to the program and challenged them to continue their pursuits in the field, saying, “We expect good things from you.”

The HCARE program offers students the opportunity to learn more about health fields. The high school students heard from researchers, scientists and professionals in the health care industry and learned about the college application process, time and stress management, team building, study habits and community service.
