Veronique Bailey Appointed Director of STEM

“We are excited to welcome Ms. Bailey to our Riverhead family,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aurelia Henriquez. “She has a strong background in teaching and science that will benefit the students of this district.”   

Bailey, a resident of Wheatley Heights, is the founder and president of SEE (See Exceptional Expectations), an educational consulting firm, and most recently worked as the assistant superintendent for secondary education in the Roosevelt Union Free School District. Prior to that, she served as the director of STEM in the South Country Central School District and for eight years as a science educator with the New York City Department of Education. 

In addition to her public school experience, Bailey was a youth coordinator for Family Service League, a child care counselor for St. Christopher-Ottilie and a youth counselor for Tri Community Youth Agency. 

Bailey holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology/biology from Howard University; a master’s degree in adolescence education, biology and geology, and educational leadership from Brooklyn College; and a doctoral candidate in educational leadership for diverse learning communities from Molloy College. She also holds New York State School District Administrator, School Building Leader, Biology and APPR Lead Evaluator certifications. 

“I am excited to join the Riverhead Central School District community at an exciting time in the district’s growth,” Bailey said. “I look forward to leveraging my past experience as a social worker, science educator, STEM director, assistant superintendent and entrepreneur to facilitate the implementation of K-12 science, technology, engineering and math curricula and overall K-12 STEM education initiatives.”

She said she intends to develop hands-on lessons to strengthen student learning at all levels, strengthen community partnerships with Stony Brook University, Brookhaven National Laboratory and other STEM organizations, and foster a vision for STEAM education through academic discourse, guided inquiry, collaborative thinking and project-based learning to understand complex problems and to prepare the next generation of innovators.
