To help students gain insight into several colleges and their campus environments, the Riverhead High School Guidance Department offered interested juniors an overnight college tour on Nov. 7 and 8.

During the tour, students were able to get a firsthand look at the differences between the schools and consider the factors that are most important to them in choosing the right college.

The two-day trip included four Connecticut schools: Fairfield University, the University of Bridgeport, Quinnipiac University and Mitchell College. At each location, students met with admission counselors and undergraduates and were given a tour of academic buildings, the campus library, residential halls, the cafeteria and the sports center.

“Nothing can replace the experience of being on campus, witnessing a live class, eating in a dining hall, walking through a dorm room or speaking with students at a college,” said Riverhead Director of Guidance Charles Gassar.

This is the second year that the high school guidance department has organized an overnight college tour. Last year, students visited Iona College, Fordham University, Marist College and Siena College.
