Five Roanoke Avenue Elementary School third grade students who kicked off the school year as virtual learners planted a garden at their school in honor of a year of pandemic learning.
Anik Ali, Anna Cahueque Escobar, Tamaya Daniels, Cristofer DeJesus and Geivi Patzan Escobar, who now attend school in person, planted three sunflowers to honor the energy it took to be a student this year. They also planted five native perennials to be reminded of learning virtually, hybrid or in person. Perennials are tough, rugged and able to handle the changing conditions of the environment while continuing to grow.
