Aquebogue and Roanoke Students Host Veterans Appreciation Webinar
Veterans Day Event Produces a Memorable Learning Experience and Encourages Teamwork
RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK (NOVEMBER 2022) — In recognition of Veterans Day, third and fourth graders from Aquebogue Elementary School and third graders from Roanoke Avenue Elementary School had the incredible opportunity to hear from three U.S. veterans during a veterans appreciation webinar. Students from the Aquebogue Compass Team helped facilitate the event with their peers at Roanoke as the students asked thoughtful questions and learned from their honored guests.
“The themes of teamwork and service were woven throughout what was a memorable learning experience for the students,” said Aquebogue Elementary School Principal Bryan Miltenberg.
The webinar created impactful connections between the students and the featured veterans, Captain Tia Beck, Specialist Barry Gilmore and Officer Carri Kruenegel. Aquebogue Elementary School and Roanoke Avenue Elementary School would like to extend special thanks to Captain Beck, Specialist Gilmore and Officer Kruenegel not only for their service but for sharing how that service prepared them to serve the communities they live in as well. This message inspired the students to reflect on how they can best serve their community and those around them and promote cooperation.
“All of the students left more prepared to apply what they learned in further appreciating the Veterans Day holiday and the Riverhead community,” said Aquebogue Assistant Principal Gary Karlson.
