Aquebogue Elementary Staff Collaborates With Prestigious Author and Professor

March 31, 2022

As a culminating activity for a recent book study on supporting newcomer students, a team of teachers and administrators from Aquebogue Elementary School had the opportunity to discuss peer-driven change with author Mauricio Miller, founder of the Community Independence Initiative and a 2019-2020 visiting professor at Princeton University.

The conversation, facilitated by CEO of the Child Center of NY, Traci Donnelly, allowed the educators and administrators to explore ways that they currently empower students as they provide them opportunities to see their capabilities and instill dignity and confidence in them.

The discussion also encouraged the Aquebogue team to notice and support positive organic occurrences and practices happening in the classrooms and community. The conversation concluded with a promise to Mr. Miller to stay in touch as they encourage students to view themselves and their peers as essential resources for one another.
