Aquebogue Elementary School fourth grader Selvin Berganza collaborated with art teacher Maureen Ahern to teach a kindergarten class about origami, the Japanese art of folded paper.
As part of the lesson Selvin walked the students through a step-by-step process of folding the paper into a boat, making sure every student was successful along the way. To develop their newfound talents in origami, Selvin advised the kindergartners to practice, practice, practice if the really wanted to grow.
“It was so powerful for the younger students to learn from one of our fourth graders,” said Mrs. Ahern, who plans on fostering additional opportunities like this throughout the year.
