Phillips Avenue Elementary School Prepares Students for the Year with a Generous Distribution

RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 2022) — A free back-to-school backpack and school supplies distribution for pre-K–Grade 4 students was recently hosted by Phillips Avenue Elementary School, part of the Riverhead Central School District. The school is thankful for all of the donations it received and had an amazing time helping families prepare for the 2022-2023 school year.

“We received incredible contributions from community members, businesses and local organizations,” said the Phillips Avenue Elementary School principal, Dr. Stephen Hudson. “The Phillips Avenue Elementary School community extends our gratitude to the following individuals, groups and companies for their generous donations that have made the distribution possible: Peconic Bay Medical Center, Northwell Health, Supplies for Success, Peter Barraud and the North Fork Brewing Company, Riverhead Central School District alum and New Orleans Saints football player Ethan Greenidge, the Community Awareness Program (CAP), Director of CAP Felicia Scocozza, CAP Board President Brian Stark, Staples and Costco.”

The distribution took place on September 1st at the Phillips Avenue Elementary School bus loop and helped families get ready for the start of the school year on September 6th. Administrators and teachers distributed backpacks and supplies to students as they expressed their excitement for the new year and all that they will learn. Phillips Avenue Elementary School recognized how crucial it was for their students to have the necessary tools, such as backpacks, folders and pencils, to accompany their education. Therefore, they initiated the backpack and school supplies distribution as a means to ensure that all Phillips Avenue Elementary School students had the opportunity to obtain the supplies that will help them thrive in the classroom.
