Blue Waves Capture First Softball County Title

The Riverhead High School varsity softball team has won the Suffolk County championship for the first time in school history. The team went 16-2 in league play, earning their second straight league title. This was the first time Riverhead softball has won back-to-back league titles in over 50 years.

The Blue Waves continued their remarkable season with a 4-0 performance in the playoffs to capture the Suffolk Class AAA championship. In the semifinals, senior pitcher Mya Marelli threw a no-hitter against the undefeated Commack High School Cougars, the first playoff no-hitter in school history. Mya was also named the League 1 Offensive Player of the Year and received all-county honors, as did Jordyn Kwasna and Adriana Martinez. Sophia Viola and Madison Saladino received all-division recognition, and Isabella D’Andrea and Shaylee Bealey were given all-league honors.

The team will face Massapequa High School in the Long Island championship at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6th, at Farmingdale State College.
