Dear Riverhead Central School District Community,

Thank you to all Riverhead stakeholders who provided input into our superintendent search. As promised, the Board directed our search firm to organize an online survey and conduct virtual meetings with select constituent groups, including students, staff, administrators, PTOs and our Town leaders.

McPherson & Jacobson LLC, our search firm, has compiled that information into a 50-page document, which can be found here. The comments, cares and concerns presented will help us in the search for the best educational leader for our district.

Respectfully,
Laurie Downs
RCSD Board of Education President

Dear Riverhead Central School District Community,

As promised, the Board has released the stakeholders survey for the community to provide input on our superintendent search. Please take a few moments to share your views on our schools and community. The survey links can be found here (English) and here (En Español) and will remain live until Feb. 12.

We also ask that you share the skills, qualities or characteristics you feel the next superintendent should possess in order to be most successful in Riverhead. These comments will help us as a Board to make the best decision for our next educational leader. All comments will remain confidential and your name will not be shared publicly or with the Board.

The most important job of a Board of Education is the hiring of a superintendent, and your input is valuable. We have taken this extra step because we care about our school community and the education of our children.

Respectfully,
Laurie Downs
RCSD Board of Education President

In our last update regarding the superintendent search, we noted that the Board identified stakeholder groups to provide input. As of this update, the search firm has provided Feb. 4 and Feb. 5 for those meetings to occur. Additionally, we referenced a community survey was being developed. Following the stakeholder meetings, the survey will be made live for members of our school district community, including residents, parents and students. Please note, the survey is only for those who reside within the boundaries of the Riverhead Central School District.

We thank our community in advance for their participation. Your feedback and input are important as we finalize the qualities, strengths and vision needed for our next educational leader.

Respectfully,
Laurie Downs

Dear Riverhead Central School District Community,

In order to share updates with the school community regarding our district’s superintendent search, we have created this page to house all pertinent information. During our Nov. 24 regular meeting, the Board of Education appointed McPherson & Jacobson, LLC out of Omaha, Nebraska to assist in conducting our search. McPherson & Jacobson will work with the board to design a search that meets the unique needs of our district, students, staff and community.

On Jan. 11, the board met with our search firm representative via Zoom to discuss identifying important criteria of wants in a superintendent, along with timelines, target dates and advertising venues. Additionally, we identified stakeholder groups to provide individual input. We are currently preparing an anonymous community survey that will assist in finalizing important characteristics and goals of our next school leader. The search will also include Zoom meetings with building PTOs and SEPTA, as well as a Zoom meeting with select students and staff.

The RCSD Board of Education is looking forward to the input of all so that we can make the best choice for all of us, especially our students.

Respectfully,
Laurie Downs
RCSD Board of Education President
