Coming Together Through Art

June 17, 2021

A unique schoolwide art project that kicked off in March at Riverhead High School has come to fruition.

Spearheaded by art teacher Jo-Ann Dellaposta, the project offered students and staff an avenue to express their feelings about the effects of COVID-19.

“I wanted to show students and staff that we are not alone and we all feel similarly,” said Dellaposta.

For the project, students and staff were encouraged to draw a one-word image on a 3.5-inch card that expressed how they were feeling. The cards revealed a collective sentiment about the struggles caused by the pandemic.

The card mural is now displayed in the school’s main entrance against the background of a blue wave.
