On Jan. 31, 2020, Friday, January 31, 2020 – New York State United Teachers brought its Fund Our Future statewide bus tour to Long Island with stops at schools in Port Washington and Riverhead. The goal is to draw attention to the severe impact a lack of state funding has had on schools statewide.
Riverhead is owed more than $31.1 million in Foundation Aid. Overcrowded classrooms of more than 30 students and difficulties keeping up with the needs of an increasing population of English language learners are among the pressing issues that school officials say they need to address through additional state funding.
This video shows highlights from that visit. Riverhead's porition begins at :44 seconds.
